Perched on a high pedestal on a platform near the SSG Hospital, is the statue of Yuvraj Fatehsinhrao Gaekwad I. Titled, Lieutenant-Colonel Shrimant Yuvaraj Fatehsinhrao Gaekwad, Yuvaraj Sahib of Baroda, Fatehsinhrao I was the eldest son of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III.

Born on 3 August 1883, he passed away on 14 September 1908 at a very young age of just 25 years. The statue and the surrounding backdrop was actually erected in his memory by his son Pratapsinhrao, in 1947. Made by Mahadev Kashinath Kolhatkar, the statue was unveiled by Jivraj Mehta, the then chief minister of Bombay State. Made out of bronze, statue shows him striking a pose with his long pointed sword, in which he had mastery.

In 1939, Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad, son of Yuvraj Fatehsinhrao I, succeeded to the throne as Maharaja of Baroda after his grandfather, Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III passed away.
