Shree Sayaji High SchoolEstablished on 1 November 1906, Shri Sayaji High School was the first high school to be established in the old city area. It was originally started in a house near Sadhana Talkies lane near Nyay Mandir as the ‘Grant in Aid High School’ by Shri Hirabhai Jethabhai Majumdar.

Sometime after its start, the house was destroyed in a huge fire in which books & furniture worth Rs 5000 turned to ashes. Saddened by the incident Hiralal almost lost hope, but his friend Hirabhai Shroff gave him courage & helped him to revive the school. Subsequently, they found a huge Mint-House, located in Ghadiyali Pol, which was fit for the school. It is said that the building was the house of guards who protected the mint. The building was then prepared for the school and with proper permissions from the Diwan, the school restarted in this building in June 1908. At the same time, the school’s name was changed to Shree Sayaji High School.

Over the years as the demand increased, more buildings were added to the school. Two of these were in the Desai Sheri and Mehta Pol. In 1951, Shri Sayaji Girls High School was also established for Girls.
